Bachman's Sparrow


The Bachman's Sparrow is very uncommon and some of them live in the long leaf pine forests of the southern United States.  I photographed this beauty in the Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge today.

Common Yellowthroat and Indigo Bunting

The Common Yellowthroat is a hyperactive little warbler that thrives in thick vegetation.  I was lucky to catch this guy out in the open.


And then he decided he would just sneak away...


While the Indigo Bunting thought I didn't see him at all.

Ruby-throated Hummingbirds



Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have claimed their breeding territory in our yard.  The male (above) and female (below) have been driving out any other hummingbirds that dare to come near.  He has been making his "u" shaped courtship dive through the air to impress her.

Heading north to the arctic tundra or high alpine meadows of Canada to breed.
