Summer Rain Storm

Fledgling Field Sparrow

I knew there was a nest of Field Sparrows out in the yard somewhere.  Today I came across the fledglings.  There were at least three little ones flitting around in the pine trees with their parents.

Hooded Warbler

This is one of my favorite wood warblers but also one of the more difficult ones to get close enough to photograph.

Chipping Sparrow Drama

I found this very tiny fledgling Chipping Sparrow in the middle of a parking lot.  I picked it up and moved it into the grass so it wouldn't get hit by a car.  Before long, one of the parents showed up to attend to it and eventually moved it off into the bushes.

Kestrel with a Fledgling Robin

This Kestrel caught a fledgling Robin.  The part that got me was seeing and hearing one of the Robin's parents just a few feet away on the wire screaming alarm calls.

Limenitis arthemis

This brush-footed butterfly is more commonly known as a Red-spotted Purple.

Sun Worshippers

After a rainy week, it was easy to find sun worshippers all over the place this morning!

Painted Turtles on a log enjoying the morning sun.

Yellow roses in my garden.

An Indigo Bunting singing his morning song from the telephone wire.

Eastern Chipmunk sunning itself on a tree stump.

White-tailed Buck (with new antlers starting to sprout) eating his breakfast in a field.

Purple Martin

Purple Martin with a silver band visible on its left leg.  When I enlarged the shot on my computer, the numbers 25 and 68 were visible on the band.

Wild Turkey

Wild Turkey hen walking through the back yard.  She shows up a few times a day to clean up sunflower seeds under the bird feeders.  I expect to see her appear with little ones following behind her sometime soon.

The Tree on the Ridge

"For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver."  ~  Martin Luther King Jr.
