The Bobolink migrates from the southern part of South America (Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina) to nest in the northern U.S. and Southern Canada. Quite a trip! There are at least two pair nesting in the field behind our house.
The female's plain coloration helps her to blend in with the tall grass. She has perfect camouflage to sit on her nest which is built on the ground.

They are protected by law since they have been nearly wiped out in most states due to loss of habitat caused by the logging industry. Once the roots are disturbed, they will not grow back and are very difficult to transplant.
