Happy Winter Solstice!

The longest night has come once more,
the sun has set, and darkness fallen.
The trees are bare, the earth asleep,
and the skies are cold and black.
Yet tonight we rejoice, in this longest night,
embracing the darkness that enfolds us.
We welcome the night and all that it holds,
as the light of the stars shines down.

Immature Bald Eagle

This immature Bald Eagle with a green wing tag marked "B9" was photographed approximately six miles east of the City of Dunkirk, New York on Lake Erie on Friday, September 18, 2009 at approximately 1:00 p.m. It turned out to be the same eagle released in Tennessee last month according to information posted on the American Eagle Foundation's website. According to the website his name is "Sergeant" and is the offspring of a pair of non-releasable parents. Great work by the Foundation!!!

Baby Squirrels

The baby squirrels in the birdhouse are now on the loose! Momma was up on the wires warning them as I came walking by. They scrambled down the pole to get back into the box to hide but then took turns peeking out at me.
