Eastern Bluebird

These guys are so beautiful and photogenic. I can see why they were chosen to be our State Bird in New York.

Bobolink

Male Bobolink

The Bobolink migrates from the southern part of South America (Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina) to nest in the northern U.S. and Southern Canada. Quite a trip! There are at least two pair nesting in the field behind our house.

Female Bobolink

The female's plain coloration helps her to blend in with the tall grass. She has perfect camouflage to sit on her nest which is built on the ground.

Pink Lady's Slipper

...also known as the Moccasin Flower is a rare find in the woods. It is a delicate member of the orchid family. They are protected by law since they have been nearly wiped out in most states due to loss of habitat caused by the logging industry. Once the roots are disturbed, they will not grow back and are very difficult to transplant.

Wild Turkey

I took this photo through my living room window. I knew that if I tried to run outside to take her picture that she would be in the woods before I would get the chance. I'm hoping to see a batch of little ones following behind her any day now.
